Mashups & Ajax/RIA

Using EXT-JS, Backbase, Dojo, Presto EAF (formerly NQ Suite) or your own home-grown Ajax script? Want to bring mashups into them? This Dev Zone is dedicated to you. Here's everything the Mashup Developer Community has to say about mashups in Ajax/RIAs, whether it's a demo, video, code sample, forum post, Q&A or blog.

Building Web 2.0 UIs with JSF, Realtime Updates with JSF and Ajax Push Taught at GIDS 2010

JavaServer Faces is a Java-based Web application framework intended developed to simplify development integration of Web-based user interfaces. It is often mentioned together with Ajax, a combination of technologies that makes it possible to create rich user interfaces. Since JSF supports multiple output formats, Ajax-enabled components can easily be added to enrich JSF-based user interfaces. Oracle's Frank Nimphius says that Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) has become a reality in modern software development but Web services don't have a user interface. [Read More...]

Mashup Fundamentals: Using Presto Mashups in AJAX Applications

To help you get started building enterprise mashups, we have partnered with Fig Leaf Software to offer enterprise developers a quick overview of Presto that includes hands on exercises, example demonstrations, EMML code samples and thorough documentation. Each unit covers different topic areas. We recommend taking the training from the beginning (unit 1.1) to the end (unit 8.3) but we understand if you are only interested in a certain topic area. If you decide to jump around, please be sure to always reference Unit 1.1 to review the course outline and needed materials for that unit. [Read More...]

What language does the mashlet use (flash, Ajax, etc)?

Many of our GUI/visual mashlets are Flash/Ajax. The tabular/text mashlets (such as the RSS mashlet, which you did not see) use HTML/XML.

The mashlet UI support OOTB is simply but has limited features, right? e.g., it's not possible if the users want to define some drag and drop features with JavaScript?

We bundle with EXT libraries (www.extjs.com) to create an OOTB experience. And since our APIs are open, you can build the UI in many other toolsets too; examples include BackBase, Flash/Flex, Silverlight, Java, JavaScript/Ajax, and Ruby.

Is Mashup driven by AJAX?

The mashup interfaces are often Ajax-based.  These interfaces can also be built using Java, Flash, Flex, Silverlight and many other web-GUI toolsets.

What charting package(s) do you use? Is there an available list of the specific chart types available? Is it possible to extend the existing chart set with 3rd party charting packages?

We use ExtJS and Fusion for visualization quite a bit.  They are both great packages.  Of course, we expose mashups in many standards data formats, letting you pick any Rich UI tool.  This means you can use Flash, Flex, Silverlight, Ajax, etc.  As for our the 'out of the box' chart types, you can learn more about them in our Documentation on our Mashup Developer Community (www.jackbe.com/dev).

Are you using .NET FRAMEWORK 3.5 with AJAX?

Most of our software is Java-based but we have integrated with .NET-driven tools like Microsoft SharePoint.

Presto.extjs.ServiceStore API or Example Doing Pagination w/ Registered REST

I have seen that this is an example using the Presto.extjs.ServiceStore to populate information from a registered service, but it is an example specifically tailored to a SOAP service that brings back all the data.  Even Ext seems to acknowledge that when calling service, the more common desire is to have server-side pagination.  Can someone provide a working example on how this is done?  I'm using a registered REST service that uses URL parameters to state the starting point and the number of results to return.

Not able to run the sample google map mashlet "Sample.GoogleMap"

Hi,

I am using Presto 2.7 and trying to run the sample mashlet "Sample.GoogleMap". Its coming up blank for me

I have obtained the necessary google maps API key and updated it in mashlet.json, libraries-config.js and also into 'Sample.GoogleMap' mashlet entry into mashlet.json.

Despite on this I see no success. Also I do not see google maps as one of the renderer in presto Wires.

Am I missing anything? I tried everything which is available in documentation.

Regards,

JDK issue with Presto Developer install

JDK required ... Sun's website says that there is a new numbering and naming scheme.  I have java/jre1.5.0_16, which if I'm not mistaken is the same as JDK 1.5.  I specified this per step 4, Installing Presto Developer Edition.  However, it is telling me that this is invalid.  Do I not have the right install or does your install not understand the changes Sun made?  Suggestions?
